Minecraft: Notch at Work on Space-Themed Trading Simulator Sandbox Game
As we reported earlier, Notch was heavily considering making a space trading simulation game that is like Elite but inspired by Firefly. In essence, he wanted the focus to be on the characters not the ship. If you are familiar at all with massive space simulation games, the focus is almost always on the ship.
Notch also had other options on the table regarding his next game title. Apparently, the creative powerhouse behind Mojang’s wildly successful and popular minecraft mining and world creation game has decided to go with the space-based trading simulation as his next project. He has already started work on a “sandbox trading sim” that is quite similar to the 1984 game classic Elite. However, there is one big difference between Notch’s project and the golden oldie from the 80s, the player’s experience isn’t just limited to moving the spaceship around the vast reaches of outer space. Notch’s game lets the player explore the inside of the ship as well. As we mentioned above, his focus is on the player not the ship. This is part of the Firefly inspiration. Notch said that he would like the player to run around the ship taking care of problems that may arise. He said the game is being developed with a mentality similar to Minecraft.

This means that the game will be playable before it is completely finished. Remember, Minecraft’s alpha releases? This allows for a lot of player feedback, which can only help polish the game even more.
