MechWarrior Online: Introducing The Dragon
MechWarrior Online from Piranha Games is showing off its latest unit. The DRG-1N Dragon is its new frontline that was first made in Luthien in 2754. It features “a Telos DecaCluster LRM-10, an Imperator-A Autocannon/5, and two Victory 23R Medium Lasers.” The Dragon, which is also impressively packed with ten tonnes of Starshield armour and a Vlar 300 engine, is a ‘Mech capable of handling threats at all ranges”.
Developer Piranha clearly has its hands full with all the brilliant media marketing it has been doing. The Dragon is a creation of the Draconis Combine and has the DecaCluster’s “indirect-fire capabilities”. During
the starting phases of a future intergalactic chaos, you have in your hands the power and influence of a BattleMech.
President Russ Bullock said, “Working with CryEngine is a true pleasure. It is definitely the best choice for us. Both the character animation pipeline with the procedurally and physics based animations and the destruction system fit our goals perfectly and allow us to develop a truly unique AAA experience based on the award-winning BattleTech Universe.”

According to Crytek, 2012 is the year of free-to-play games “step up to offer true AAA quality to gamers”. It also announced that CryEngine 3 is utilized for the robot brawling game Mechwarrior Online. This was the same engine used in developing Crysis 2. Right now, they are involved in developing Warface, another free to play game using CryEngine 3.
Piranha has not launched any combat video games for almost 10 years. MechWarrior Online would be its first full entry in the series. The free to play MechWarrior Online will be exclusively released for PC in 2012.
And the Mechs rise again:
