MechWarrior Online: First Trailer Release Teases Some big Developments Ahead
The developer of upcoming free to play battlemech action game MechWarrior Online, Piranha Games, has released the first trailer for the game. Boy, it sure packs a lot of teasing. It also gives us a good glimpse of what this title offers. Two words come to mind immediately – massive scale.
Ask anyone who has played BattleTech and MechWarrior back in the day and you’ll hear them talk about the thrill of popping into a robot and doing battle with other steel-encased behemoths. Based on the trailer for MechWarrior Online, this is the same thrill the upcoming title brings to the table. The trailer shows the insides of what appears to be a mechwarrior hangar. A character is hoisted into one of the units and a voice says “online” after listing out the differing systems of the unit. We are treated to a systems check of a very sophisticated machines designed and built for waging war and dealing out death to fellow mechanized units. The soundtrack then switches from the cold metallic sounds of a hangar or factory to a rock guitar riff and infectious beat. The behemoths are ready to fight. This trailer brings back so many old school memories of playing Battletech – The Crescent Hawk’s Inception on slow as molasses DOS machines. Even then, battlemech games were all about scale and size. The trailer has plenty of this. A concept trailer was released in 2009 and was followed up by the official unveiling of MechWarrior Online in 2011.

Thankfully, things will be smooth in the development of this game going forward.
