Game of Thrones: Teaser Screenshots and Some Title details
You just got to love San Francisco’s annual Game Developers Conference. Not only do game developers and video game industry observers get to hobnob and share ideas, it is also a feast for followers of game developments to pick up on the latest news on projects in the pipeline.
We’ve already been treated to teases of the upcoming Medal of Honor installment dubbed Warfighter. We’ve also heard word of a possible new project from Lionhead studios. Now, we are teased of one potentially huge game. The project is the Game of Thrones massively multiplayer online game. Based on the very popular HBO fantasy action drama. If this game successfully leaps from TV to the small screen, it may be huge and might take a life of its own apart from and possibly bigger than its TV namesake. I have to admit, the lore of the TV series is a good bedrock base to lay out an MMO. Who doesn’t find the drama of House Lannister and House Stark awesome to behold?
Of course, it totally depends on execution and marketing to turn a “Wouldn’t it be awesome?” kind of game to an actual game that is played by millions the world over month after month. Still, the Game of Thrones MMO might have a fighting chance because it is being developed by no other than Bigpoint Games. This outfit is a veteran of MMO development since they handled Battlestar Galactica Online. Sure, it isn’t as big as WOW but they do bring extensive MMO experience to the table. Bigpoint will be showing off Game of Thrones at GDC in its current pre-production stages. Two screenshots for the game have also been revealed but it’s just a tease – there are no mentions of Game of Thrones specific features. Regardless, BigPoint plans for an immersive MMO that thoroughly integrates with the HBO series’ rich backstory to produce a unique fantasy MMO experience.
