Assassin’s Creed 3: Scalping Removed for Better or for Worse
Ubisoft’s dedication to Assassin’s Creed 3′s unusual historical setting has led to a decision by the developers to cut scalping entirely from the game. In a move that will undoubtedly leave some players disappointed, Ubisoft have chosen to follow the path of historical accuracy instead of gratuitous violence. Brave. (No pun intended).
Despite having written scalping into the text, and also showing the act during a gameplay preview in London, Ubisoft have confirmed that scalping with not be included in the game. This is due to the fact that the Native American tribe that the protagonist belongs to did not scalp people. Conner is supposed to be a member of the Mohawk tribe. Personally I am glad that Ubisoft want to treat the matter with historical accuracy. While gratuitous violence in video games is always fun, the issue of the American Revolution is so important, and the role of the Native American tribes is often overlooked, underplayed, or misrepresented. So in that respect it is good to see Ubisoft showing such integrity to the details.
