Alan Wake: PC Retail Version Available On April 3rd
Thriller game Alan Wake has breached the 2 million sales mark. Quite an impressive feat considering there was quite a lag between its Xbox version and its PC Steam version. Also, it took two years to reach this point. While this title is definitely not one of those instantly recognizable hits and may have disappointed industry observers used to overnight releases that rack up millions of unit sales in a few months, Alan Wake has clearly demonstrated its ability to be a cult hit.
Oskari Häkkinen, head of franchise development at Remedy’s credits the game’s storytelling and narrative as the key features for its word of mouth viral success. Its profile definitely meets the definition of cult hits-low to moderate initial sales followed by a consistent sales pace.
It also didn’t hurt this title that it got ported to the PC. Maybe another sales outlet will help it rack more sales. The disc version helps the title reach gamers who don’t have an internet connection or whose connection is spotty. We’ll know soon enough-the game has a retail version that will drop on April 3. So what does all this recent spate of good news mean for Alan Wake? Here’s a hint, it starts with an S and ends with “equel”.
