Mass Effect 3: Reaper Earth victory alternative ending

With the possibility of glorious victory also comes the risk of shameful defeat. That’s a fact. Every battle can end in one of three ways – victory, defeat, or tie/draw. Since any proposition involving the invasion of the earth is so massive and spectacular, there is no possibility of a draw/tie in this particular case.

So we’re left with either victory or defeat. And that’s exactly the kind of tremendous galactic conflagration and ramification at play in Mass Effect 3. In an interview with NowGamer at Gamescom during the previous week, BioWare community representative Mike Gamble revealed that Mass Effect 3 will have an ending where the Reapers win in the battle for Earth. Okay, so they have the alternate ending covered. Big deal, right? Wait, there’s more, it’s bigger than that. Think big. Think galactic.

Actually, it is *quite* possible for there to be a draw/tie in this scenario. The Reapers could be beaten back but still remain in control of large sections of the galaxy. They could even remain invested in strongholds on planets. Planets are actually pretty big places…. And how long does it take Shepard to rally an armada? Weeks? Months? And how long does indoctrination take? The Reapers could leave behind millions if not billions of indoctrinated souls behind, even if they’re forced to retreat, leaving the Citadel races to fight an ongoing guerilla war against the indoctrinated for years to come….
