Madden NFL: SNL Skit Shows Eli Manning Wanting in
Eli Manning is one of the biggest games in American football. What is it about two Super Bowl championship rings you can’t understand? Along with his brother Peyton Manning of the Denver Broncos, Manning is easily one of the most recognized faces and names in football. That is why he is widely thought of as being too expensive to be featured in football simulation games.
Yes, that includes even the deep pockets of EA Sports. Neither him nor his brother has ever appeared in the Madden NFL series both as a signature athlete or a cover star. Given their star power, let’s just put it this way: if they had wanted to appear in the video game series, they would have already done so-a long time ago. Still, that fact did not get in the way of the popular long-running late-night comedy series, Saturday Night Live, of making fun of being digitally converted into a video game character for a football simulation game. A recent SNL skit has him prancing around in a ping-pong ball suit Of course, the ping-pong ball suit comedy send off of motion capture is looking a bit haggard after Blake Griffin donned a similar suit in an ad for the id Software first-person shooter Rage. While Manning’s ping pong suit was good for a couple of marginal chuckles, he did acquit himself near the end with his thing a grenade. Due to international broadcasting limitations we can only show you a short clip.
The most hilarious part of the skit was not anything done by Manning, however. The part that got the most laughs are the NFL star impersonations done by the SNL veterans. Not as outrageous as Joe Montana’s line to Phil Hartman and Jan Hooks about being in his room playing with himself, but it is good enough.
