Madden NFL 13: Calvin Johnson Attempts to Dodge Curse
Do you smash mirrors and think nothing of it? Do you walk under ladders? Do you consciously and intentionally pick Friday the 13 to take long plane trips? Chances are you have some familiarity with superstitions and may or may not believe them. Well, in the wonderful world of sports simulation games, there are superstitions as well.
One of the most persistent is the superstition that if you become Madden NFL’s cover athlete, your career will tank. Either you will get injured, or you will suffer a freak accident or some other mishap will fall your way. Many sports game observers consider being featured as a Madden NFL cover athlete the equivalent of a black cat crossing your path and you forget to backtrack or do some other hokey rituals to “counter” the bad luck. Well, we shall soon see if this persistent football lore holds water. No other than the Detroit Lions’ Calvin Johnson is the cover athlete of the most popular football video game series in the market, and our eyes and ears are on full alert as to what kind of jinx Mr. Johnson has put on his career. The Lions put up his picture last Wednesday. He is the NFL’s best receiver but why does he look rather unsure of himself. Oh I know, if I was doing something that people keep saying will jinx my stay in the NFL, I’d look a tad nervous too. Still, he’s Calvin Johnson. The best of the best and the picture does him no justice. This guy should have confidence oozing out of his pores. Still, the jinx looms large.

Considering the odds of bad luck and the fate of previous cover athletes, it’s no surprise he has his mouth open. As in OMG THE CURSE IS FOR REAL!
