Guild Wars 2: Official Game Site Dishes on MMO’s Updates

The official Guild Wars 2 website has a new update. This latest entry gives us more new details about the highly-anticipated MMO. There is a lot of detail given about the MMO’s four major achievement categories, a discussion on just how these achievements will work and there is also a look at the evolution of the thief class’ backstab abilities. The developers also talk about animation system upgrades and how they will make combat a lot more fluid.

In Guild Wars 2, many skills have unique animations, setting the MMO’s combat apart from other games. The animation-blending system of the game is extensive and players can transition easily from one skill to another. Previous demos have shown this through chain skills such as the warrior sword combo. you will see Sever Artery leading to Gash and then to Final Thrust. There are lots of other skills that flow easily this way. This is helpful to combat, of course. There are some problems with these because animations for the skills are preventing player from using another skill immediately. The animations had to be finished first. You may try to go the easy way by stunning or chasing someone but that won’t be a good guarantee.

So, programmers are focusing on the added technology to the game’s skill data. This way, they are able to focus on a point in the animation in which the player could move again. Skills will not only feel useful but will also be fun to use this way.

    !OUCH!
I was just reading their update report.
They are already begun massive nerfs of elementalist elite skills and said they would begin to work on non-elite skills as they monitor the effects that the previous changed have over the “next couple months.”
I was hopping for a fast closed beta given all the pre-tweak-n-polish they did before the closed beta. Looks like we might be in for an end of the year release rather then the mid year release (first of the year for most of us) that we were all hoping for.
Guild wars 2 development is starting become the butt of jokes on Blizzard and EA forums. Sad day for GW2 fans indeed.
