Suikoden: Trailer Reveals Combat System
Game developers and publishers need to maintain the interest and anticipation of their target markets with teaser screenshots and video trailers o their upcoming games. Konami’s Genso Suikoden – The Woven Web of a Century slated for release on the PSP platform takes this marketing strategy to the max. After releasing the first video trailer at the 2011 Tokyo Game Show last September to showcase that a game porting was indeed in the works after announcing it several months ago, developer-publisher Konami now releases a new trailer that showcases the battle system features.
Fans of the long-running Suikoden role playing video game series who have seen the 2nd trailer can easily conclude that the battle system in the forthcoming PSP version of Suikoden is fairly similar to that in the classic Suikoden games running on the PS2, PC and Gameboy and Nintendo DS. The battle system has three major modes – basic, one-on-one duel and strategic war battle modes. It would appear the new iteration has the same categories. Is this good or bad for the fans? That remains to be seen with succeeding new trailers as we inch further into the release date.
Based on a Chinese novel Shui Hu Zhuan, the Suikoden franchise has its roots dating back to 1995 when it was first released on the PlayStation in Japan and then in Europe and America the following year. Since then, its exotic themes on corruption, politics, revolution as well as mystical crystals have seen several editions (Suikoden 1-5 and the latest) along with porting to a number of evolving gaming platforms, starting with the PS and Sega Saturn, PC, cellphones to today’s generation of consoles, though with a predominantly PlayStation preference.
