Guide to Nintendo’s upcoming pre-E3 Press Conference

For hardcore Nintendo console fans, the event you need to keep an eye out for at E3 is the “media briefing” to be held by Nintendo. Nintendo uses this even to announce its biggest developments for the year—all compressed into this short 60 to 90 minute presentation. What’s Nintendo got on its plate this year? A whole lot—it is slated to release an HD successor console for the Wii as well as a slew of 3DS software titles. For this year’s E3, Nintendo hasn’t given a specific date or time for the media briefing.

However, it is traditionally held the Tuesday morning before E3. This means the media briefing will be on June 7th, 2011. As for location, Nintendo hasn’t announced a venue yet but if it follows last year’s pattern, it might be held at the Nokia Theater—right next to the LA convention center (where E3 will be held). Some possible bombshells to look out for in this year’s media briefing include: a demo or playable version of the Wii 2 (codenamed Project Cafe), lots of 3DS titles will be showcased including Mario 3DS and other titles we haven’t heard of yet.

The heavily anticipated Mario Kart 3DS might finally make an appearance. Given the surprises Nintendo likes to pop right before E3, definitely expect some this year.
