Dead Island: Just When You Thought the Game was Dead
Publisher Dead Silver plans to release a new mission pack for the Dead Island game. Released in September 2011, the upcoming DLC will have Ryder White’s Campaign for Dead Island, referring to the one of the game’s main characters, so the DLC may have something to do with the game’s core storyline.
The mission pack allows players to gain White’s perspective as he explores Banoi Island, a picturesque but deadly isle near the coat of Papua New Guinea and presents the main setting of the entire game. This is a long-awaited addition to the title, a game with a survival horror storyline which uses an open-world design to let players explore an island full of zombies. According to the company’s head of PR and Marketing Aubrey Morris, “I always like to think of antagonist characters not as evil, but simply misunderstood.” This is probably true but surviving a zombie-filled island does not leave much strength for people to still have feelings of empathy. Morris continues, “Ryder White was obviously suffering from a massive case of beast mood in Dead Island, and I think it’s only fair we got to learn his side of the story.”
In the DLC, gamers will play the role of White and will get to use new weapons. It is a single-player campaign with gameplay lasting several hours. It is not clear if players can combine this campaign with the main game, although it can be done with the earlier DLC Bloodbath Arena. The DLC will be available at the end of January for players on the PlayStation 3 and in Steam for $9.99. Those who want to get it from the Xbox Live Marketplace will need 800 Points.
