Batman – Arkham City: Who Topped the Metacritic Rankings for 2011?

There are many awards to be won when it comes to the world of video games. Some video games win over the critics and some, on average, win over a combination of the critics’ and players’ responses. Metacritic’s ratings are just another way of judging just how great or awful a game is.

For the year 2011, Batman – Arkham City for PS3 wins Metacritic’s Game of the Year award. This is not such a surprise because the game that features the Caped Crusader is well-loved by both gamers and critics. Do you remember when the game was first launched? Remember the costumed fans that lined up for a copy? Of course, Skyrim fans may complain. After all, The Elder Scrolls 5 – Skyrim has tons of fans. Don’t you worry guys, Skyrim’s Xbox 360 version is close behind Arkham City. The review aggregator reports that Batman – Arkham City’s PS3 version has a Metascore of 96 while The Elder Scrolls 5 – Skyrim also has a Metascore of 96. However, one of the games was reign supreme. Arkham City wins “by a few decimal points to take top honors.”

Both game titles have two versions in the top ten Metacritic’s list. Portal 2 actually beats them by being cited in the list three times. Other games that made it to the list are Mass Effect 2, Minecraft and The Legend of Zelda – Ocarina of Time.

Arkham City is now part of an exclusive group of Metacritic Game of the Year winners that included Grand Theft Auto 4, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Uncharted 2 – Among Thieves in the past.

Taking a look at the ranks per platform, Skyrim (96) topped the Xbox 360 versions and Blackwater at 32 Metacritic score fared the worst. Batman – Arkham City (96) had the best PS3 rating while Kung Fu Panda 2 – The Video Game (31) did worst. For Wii games, The Legend of Zelda – Skyward Sword (93) was the top and Transformers – Dark of the Moon – Stealth Force Edition (33) was the worst.
