Assassin’s Creed 3: Developer Diary Part 2 Released

Are you getting excited about Assassin’s Creed 3? With all the tantalising details that Ubisoft have released over the last few months I think that even the most hardened sceptic  is looking on with some degree of interest.

In order to excite those appetites further Ubisoft have released the second part to their developer diary. In it the developers emphasise the brutal reality of combat during the revolution. The second instalment details the various weapons that will be included in the game. The musket, the bayonette. Two really brutal and painful ways to die.

Ubisoft highlighted that Assassin’s Creed 3 has a whole new fighting style. Connor is also equipped with a tomahawk, this is historically accurate, and is also really effective in close hand to hand combat. Against a line of muskets though, the melee weapons will not be particularly effective, therefore Connor now has the option of using a “meat shield” a rather graphic term coined to mean a human shield.

Guerrilla tactics also form a major part of the American fighting style. Connor, who is supposed to have no allegiance (I’ll believe that when I see it *ahem*) is also described by the bombastic trailer as being the original guerrilla warrior. The fighting mechanics have been updated to accommodate these different styles, as have the crowd mechanics.

So, it’s all looking pretty good. It’s just a shame the way this game has been marketed so far. It all looks a bit Nationalist and tacky, and bit Team America. I think you all know the song I mean in particular. Having had a good hands on with the title at GamesCom it actually seems that the game actually has a lot more depth than it has been marketed as having. But I guess we will have to wait until October 10th for the final verdict.
