Nintendo 3DS: 3DS to ship on March 27 for $249.99
If it lives up to its description, Nintendo’s latest version of the DS will knock your socks off. The Nintendo 3DS will be the first 3D handheld gaming device that doesn’t require 3D glasses. That’s right–no glasses! The moment of truth takes place on March 27 when the 3DS ships in the US.
Just like with the launch of the Wii’s impact on motion-based gaming, Nintendo aims to be the category leader of a whole new category with this launch. Nintendo showcased the 3DS at E3 last year but here are its features again, just in case you missed them the first time around. The 3DS will be roughly the same size as the existing DS. It will let people play games and watch movies in 3D with no need for 3D glasses. The device features a new analog circle button, built-in motion and gyro sensors. The sensors responds to your handling and positioning of the game controller. This new version supports earlier versions of teh 3DS and has some some built-in software.
In addition to games and movies, the 3DS also takes and displays pictures. The 3D effect works by process of using the human eye’s perception of space and tricking it into compiling a 3D image. The initial crop of games that are specifically being developed for the 3Ds include: Super Street Fighter IV 3D, Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D, and Lego Star Wars III The Clone Wars.
The 3DS system also allows supports Nintendo’s e-shop. We definitely see people waiting in long lines to buy this product. Talk about a game changer!
