Heroes of Ruin: Story and Environment Take Center Stage in New Trailer
The new trailer for the upcoming title Heroes of Ruin puts the 3DS RPG action game’s environment and story at center stage. The Square Enix title beefs up the RPG credentials of the relatively new 3DS platform. Just judging from the trailer, the game brings a lot to the table.
While the story related by the trailer gives us the comfort that there was some effort given to giving a proper narrative grounding to the game, the real claim to fame of this upcoming title is its environment. What about it? Unlike other games that operate off a fixed map, Heroes of Ruin’s dungeons are created dynamically based on procedure. This means that you will never see the exact same dungeon when playing this game. Talk about boosting a game’s freshness, and possibly replayability, level! The video also has a smidgen of actual game combat. The procedural generation of game environments fits this game’s 3DS platform. There’s a different game dynamics when you are playing a handheld. You want it to be fresh, challenging, and new. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like it may be easier to get bored with a game when playing a handheld.
This procedural approach to game environments may make for a more compelling and long-lasting handheld gaming experience. Also, the trailer shows off some enemies like shark-headed enemies. The title is slated to launch sometime in the Spring.
