Homefront: New trailer video released

THQ and Kaos Studios’ insurrection first person shooter, Homefront, is about to be released in a few days. Naturally, a new video release is making the rounds to highlight the game’s offerrings. If the release video gives the impression that the game has a cinematic feel to it, you can credit that to the writer behind this title–John Milius. Yes, that’s right, THE John Milius of Oscar-winning Vietnam war saga classic Apocalypse Now and soviet-era cult standard, Red Dawn. The helicopter scenes and the snippet from Jefferson Airplane’s Volunteers does evoke the emotions of Apocalypse Now–except everything is in reverse.

Instead of the US being an occupying force desperately trying to contain an insurrection, Homefront features American guerrillas putting the fight to their North Korean occupiers. That’s where the novelty of Homefront–its storyline and angle. Given the virtual flood of FPS titles making the rounds lately, Homefront brings the thrill of rebellion, fighting against superior invading forces, and a post-Cold War backdrop that taps into a sense of patriotism. Quite a powerful thematic cocktail as seen in the gameplay segments in the pre-release video: ambush attacks, hit and run attacks, and generally making do while living on the run. We can’t wait to try this game when it rolls out.
