This sign combined with the rumble feature, which points out any items you can interact with, have the option of being on or off to make the investigation easy or more difficult.
Some of the items that Cole looks at can be useful and completely necessary while others are circumstantial and useless. The case can be solved with only the items that are necessary. Do not feel like every single item must be relevant to what you are looking for. Cole will often get rid of the items that are not needed for the investigation. The typical items that he will throw away being alcohol, boxes, and other simple things.
When you grab something that is important make sure to turn the object around to see all the angles until the screen zooms and highlights one tiny, important detail. There are other items that you can do more with that rotating them like looking inside and behind things. All the relevant evidence Cole will write down in his notebook. Take time with each piece of evidence to be sure you got all the information available.
