Final Fantasy 13-2: How to Win a Chocobo Race
If you want to go Chocobo racing in the Final Fantasy 13-2 world, you have to train your own ponies. Chocobo Racing is not a new mechanic, however. It premiered back in Final Fantasy 7 and is now just making a comeback because fans want it. Chocobo racing is a hobby in which players have to capture, take care and train their chocobo. You, as the player, have to do this in a farm. Make sure that your chocobo becomes more able to win races. There are some changes in the 13-2 version, though. So even if you were familiar with FF7’s version, you still might have to check out the updated video walkthrough.
To be part of the chocobo race, you first have to find your silver chocobo. If you want a silver chocobo, you have to go to Academia 4 XXAF. Colors are important because differently colored chocobos have different stats and abilities. This could happen by the end of chapter 4 when the silver chocobo crystal gets unlocked. To get hold of the monster crystal, you have to go armed with improved moogle throw fragment skill. The skill can be obtained at the Choco Mystic in Serendipity. After you have your fragment skill secured, go on to 4 XXAF to the research lab. Go to the right side of the research lab where you can find a chocobo in some sort of cocoon state. Throw a moogle at it. When the chocobo crystal lands on the platform, it is ready for you to grab it.
Now, it is time to you to max the chocobo’s chances of winning races. You can go to the Archlyte Steppes to farm potent orbs while it is sunny. You may also fight buccaboos that will provide you orbs as drops. You can adjust your relentless assault paradigm in such a way that you make the fights end faster and hence give you drops faster. You may also farm potent essence in the Archlyte steppes during rainy weather in Clearwater marshes. You will only access the essence during cloudy or windy weather after the gold Cactuar statue is revealed. The silver chocobo is already equipped with a blue streak level and other abilities that can help it win but you can supplement these abilities by adding more such as the Microchu crystal.
If you are confident that your chocobo is ready to race, register it. During the race, your chocobo may start out slowly but will eventually lead the race as it gets its boost at the end. If you feel that your chocobo needs more of a boost or if it is slowing down then you need to buy items that can boost its abilities from some vendors.
